Beetroot is loaded with nitrates, antioxidants, potassium, magnesium and iron as well as vitamin A. vitamin B6, vitamin C and folic acid. Beetroot is high in soluble fiber and is considered highly beneficial to the heart, liver, blood and digestive system of humans and cats and dogs.

#2 Beets Contain Important Polyphenols That Fight Disease

One of the best science-backed reasons to eat beets is the disease-fighting polyphenols they contain. Beets provide a type of polyphenols known as betalains. These betalains are also one of the science-backed reasons why you should consider beets. Firstly, Beta Lains are a water-soluble antioxidant that has a deep red color. This red comes from the antioxidant contents. It is also believed that the red pigmentation contains certain anti-cancer agents. It increases oxygen uptake at cellular level, reduces the blood pressure and protects the cardiovascular system. Secondly, beta Lains also boost the immune system to increase antioxidant defense systems.

#3 Beets Reduce Blood Pressure

A recent trial showed that beetroot may play a very active role in cardiac health. In the trial, participants ate 100g of wholefood beets. Following consumption, the participants clearly showed lowered blood pressure readings. As a result, beets may be an excellent option to consider for both humans and animals with hypertension.

#4 Beets Have an Anti-Inflammatory Effect on Our Body

One of the biggest science-backed reasons to include beets in you and your pets daily diet is that beets are conducive to potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and vascular protective properties in the body. The positive points of beetroot are all confirmed through human and animal studies. Beets may be able to play a protective role in the fight against growing chronic diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

#5 Beets May Help Protect Against Dementia

Several recent studies show the potential for the role of beets in combating the growing rates of dementia and Alzheimer’s. One particular study showed that the nitrate contained within beets might be a secret weapon in brain defense. Beets are one of the biggest sources of dietary nitrate. Upon ingestion of nitrate, blood flow both increases and improves.
