Sacred Pets Program
The founder of Universal Pets has been involved in the pet industry since 2000, currently within the Pet Cremation sector.
At Universal Pets, we pride ourselves on empowering pet owners, one service at a time. Our comprehensive pet care services not only ensure your beloved pets receive the best care but also reflect our deep commitment to the community. By supporting pet rescue organizations through donations, we help provide homes for countless animals in need. Additionally, we take a responsible approach to deceased pet care, working to remove deceased pets from landfills in an eco-friendly manner. Join us in making a positive impact on pets' lives and the environment.
Pet Rescue Groups

Pet rescue groups often struggle due to a combination of financial, logistical, and emotional challenges. Here are some of the main reasons:

1. Lack of Funding
-
Donations are limited: Most rescues rely on donations, which can be inconsistent or decrease during tough economic times.
-
High costs: Vet bills, food, shelter, transport, and medications add up quickly.
-
Few grants: There’s fierce competition for animal welfare grants, and not all rescues have the resources or skills to apply.
-

2. Overpopulation of Animals
-
Too many intakes: Unwanted, abandoned, or surrendered pets overwhelm the system.
-
Backlogs: Without enough adoptions, animals stay longer in care, limiting space for new intakes.
-
Lack of desexing: In areas where spaying/neutering isn’t enforced or affordable, the problem compounds.
-

3. Volunteer Shortages
-
Burnout: Many rescue workers are volunteers who experience emotional exhaustion.
-
Not enough help: Transport, fostering, fundraising, and admin work are often done by a handful of people.
-

4. Limited Space and Resources
-
Overcrowded shelters: Too few foster homes and facilities to care for the number of animals.
-
Inadequate supplies: Basic needs like food, litter, bedding, or crates can run out.
-

5. Increased Veterinary Needs
-
Sick and injured animals: Many rescues take in animals with medical issues, which increases costs.
-
Specialist care: Some pets need surgery, dental work, or long-term treatment.
-

6. Emotional Toll
-
Compassion fatigue: Constant exposure to suffering and tough decisions can weigh heavily on workers.
-
Grief and guilt: Especially when animals can’t be saved or rehomed.
-

7. Public Misunderstanding or Lack of Awareness
-
People don't spay/neuter: Leading to unwanted litters.
-
Assumptions: Some believe rescues are funded by the government or “doing fine.”
-
Adoption hesitancy: Potential adopters may look to breeders or pet shops instead.
-

8. Poor Support from Authorities
-
Few legal protections: Animal cruelty laws may be weak or poorly enforced.
-
Dumped responsibilities: Councils or governments may pass responsibility to rescue groups without funding support.
-

Fallen Angels (Pets)

Unfortunately, many Fallen Angels (deceased) pets are relinquished to veterinary clinics for various reasons, leaving the clinics with no choice but to place them in landfills. The vet clinic and the families should not be judged based on the circumstances or options available to them. Not all crematoriums accept pets surrendered to veterinary clinics, leaving the clinic with no choice but to resort to landfill disposal. Universal Pets has determined that this cannot persist; these beloved animals deserve far more than being discarded in a landfill. If necessary, Universal Pets will cover the cost of a complete cremation service to ensure that these pets receive the dignified, respectful, and compassionate send-off they truly deserve. To reach our goal, we need your assistance. Your contributions and purchases from our online store will play a vital role in making this a reality.
Enviromental Impact-This poses a serious environmental threat, as these animals may contain harmful substances like anesthetic (which can last up to 12 months in the ground or body), antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs which all can endanger wildlife and soil organisms and viruses can contaminate the environment such as Parvo Virus.

To combat this issue, we created the Sacred Pets Program, ensuring that these cherished pets receive the respectful cremation services they deserve instead of in landfill.

You might wonder, "Why is burying my pet in the backyard not allowed?" It will depend on your jurisdiction with some councils, but we don't recommend. If your pet has chemicals in its system, disease or virus leads to serious and occasionally deadly gastrointestinal illness in puppies and young dogs. Fortunately, there are few diseases we can contract from our pets, although some—like salmonellosis and toxoplasmosis—can significantly affect vulnerable individuals. Burial is discouraged, similar to human burials when families opt for this instead of cremation. Additionally, legislation stipulates that if you choose to bury your pet, the hole must be at least 800mm (80cm) deep and a minimum of 2 meters from interfering with any underground table waterways and systems.

Approximately 44,000 dogs and 50,000 cats are estimated to be euthanized by councils, rescue groups, and shelters each year. This figure does not account for the pets surrendered to veterinarians or other organizations, being discarded out in the bush, nor does it include reptiles, birds, and other types of pets. What happens to the over 94,000 pets in this situation? They often end up in landfills.

Pets bring immense joy to our lives, especially when times are tough. They are always there for us when we need them. Let's show our appreciation by giving back to these beloved companions and supporting them with a wonderful send off on to their next journey.
Families of these pets would be immensely grateful that their community united to support their beloved animals with such compassion.

Our program will also support Rescue Groups that work tirelessly to the survival of animals in their care.

We created the Sacred Pets Program to guarantee that as many pets as possible, if not all, having a loving home to have their best life and for those pets who are no longer with us, are cremated with dignity instead being discarded in landfills. We aim to encourage councils to cease accepting pets at their landfill facilities and allow us to handle their care instead.
